Hi, I’m Michael Guilford. I’ve been a cycling coach since 2012 when I set up Rideabout. I’m a keen multi-discipline bike racer and take a rider centred approach to coaching.
I’ve raced gravity mountain bike events across the UK which have pushed my technical ability. And I’ve been able to bring to life what I’ve learned through my mountain bike skills coaching.
I've raced MTB XC, Cyclocross, Road & TT, gaining results in elite level races. Through my own committed fitness training, I’ve helped clients get fitter, improve their skills and fulfil their own biking ambitions. I coach riders on a 1-1 basis delivering tailored training programmes & strength sessions to build fitness. Get in touch with me.

Racing experience
I started racing cross country MTB in 2010, achieving podium results several times in the National MTB Series and Southern XC.
I raced endurance disciplines, cyclocross and road in the South East Road Race League, Surrey Road Race League and Wessex Cyclo-Cross League. I achieved top 10 results in other national races.
I switched to gravity mountain bike racing in 2019. I’ve competed in enduro and downhill races in both the BNES , PMBA and Pearce Cycles events. Here are my results.
Coaching locations
I run mountain bike skills courses across established trails around Sheffield, Yorkshire and the Peak District. These include Grenoside Woods, Wharncliffe Woods, Parkwood Springs, Lady Cannings, Bolehills BMX track and Farmer John’s Bike Park. I also coach on local pump tracks - Charnock, Eyam and Hillsborough.
I enjoy collaborating with other coaches and enjoy my work with British Cycling. My involvement in their development programmes enables me to coach riders of all ages right across the UK.
Strength Training for Cyclists
I deliver cycling specific strength sessions to help riders build fitness, manage weight and avoid injury. I run outdoor strength & fitness classes in Sheffield and deliver tailored training programmes for individuals.
